Jesus made baptism an important part of his ministry, and he made it a necessary mandate for our mission. Baptism is not man’s idea. It is not a religious ceremony for nice people. It is not merely a Baptist distinctive. Baptism comes from God, and he commands us to baptize (Matt 28:19-20).
BELIEVERS Baptism
Believers baptism by immersion illustrates our salvation. It does not save us. Baptism is an external sign of an internal change. Baptism involves a public profession of our faith in Jesus. It marks the end of our old way of life with sin, and it signifies our new way of life with Jesus.
Baptism displays our union with Jesus before the church and the world. In other words, believers are now one with Jesus. Therefore, baptism is a public ceremony administered by the church. Baptism reveals our union with Christ for all to see. Baptism isn’t a private religious experience.
AGE for Baptism
When is a child old enough to be baptized? A child is old enough to be baptized when they can articulate the gospel and give evidence they are following Jesus. A child may believe in Jesus Christ when they are young, but we think waiting until their teens for baptism confirms their testimony.
Children baptized too soon may doubt the significance of their baptism when they get older. Waiting until your child understands what it means to be a follower of Christ, increases their confidence in the gospel and strengthens their resolve to persevere in Christian faith.
Request Baptism
To be baptized, contact one of our elders or the church office. Our baptism process includes an elder interview and preparing your written testimony. Once we have met with you, we will add you to our next baptism service. We encourage you to invite your family and friends to your baptism. They will hear you share your testimony and watch you illustrate the gospel. It will be a celebration!
