Growing up in a Christian home, my parents prioritized giving to our local church. On Saturdays, my mom put an offering check on the stairs in the entryway. Then, on Sundays, when my dad sat on the steps to slip on his shoes, he picked up the check and took it to church. My parent’s weekly commitment persisted in seasons of plenty and hardship. They gave faithfully—even sacrificially.
In Luke 12:22-34, Jesus promises kingdom dividends when we trust him with the resources he has given us. While the world madly chases after more and more possessions and wealth (v 30), Jesus exhorts us to be rich toward God (v 21). As Christ’s followers, we must not be owned by our possessions. Thus, Jesus says, “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also” (v 34).
The idea of giving to the local church, for some believers, seems optional. They are offended when the church talks about giving; and they ignore ways to serve. They want amazing programs and beautiful facilities, but they are barely involved and rarely give. They prioritize careers, children, vacations, entertainment, leisure, special interests, hobbies, sports, politics, or clubs.
Milton Community Church depends on our members (and friends) to be rich toward God and make our local church a high priority. Although most of us do not write checks like my mom, and bring them to church like my dad, we can faithfully and regularly give online or through the ChurchCenter app. These platforms also make it simple to create automatic, recurring giving.
Fortunately, God has blessed our church with a growing number of faithful givers who are investing their time, money, and abilities through our church. They recognize our efforts to spread the gospel and grow our church depend on them regularly giving and faithfully serving. They see various needs for our church, and they are devoting themselves to meet those needs and more.
I am thankful for our faithful givers!
In Christ,
Pastor Nathan
